Hello, and a warm welcome to my website

Please come in and have a look around

I have been a freelance writer, researcher and consultant since June 2009. From September 2010 to September 2011, I lived alongside the Anglican Benedictine Community at Mucknell Abbey, near Worcester, UK. I am now back in Exeter reflecting on possible next steps. It looks as those these will combine a new web development company, community energy and writing. Please do get in touch for a real or virtual coffee and chinwag.

My interests are in how human beings affect and are affected by the natural world of which we are part, and the related theology and psychology of connectedness. My background is in science, consultancy and business analysis, especially in the environmental sphere, aiming to apply my skills to make a difference. I have been a Christian for more than twenty years, and seek to live out my faith in working to encourage care for the environment as God's creation and justice for our neighbours across the earth and in future generations. I also have the occasional moment when I would describe myself as a contemplative. Please see my CV for more information.

I would like to spend most of my time researching and writing, and being involved in organisations involved in sustainability. However, I have to earn a few beans too, so I have set up a company to develop websites and undertake contract consultancy work. Please see this list of my voluntary and paid project work. Some of my outputs are also available on this site.

The idea is for all of these strands to form a consistent and coherent whole. They can be summed up in the quotes below, and in the ideas of resting and wrestling. Resting in contemplative prayer, in enjoying life and the company of friends, in sitting down with a good book and a cup of tea, in simply being. Wrestling in working for positive change, in doing what I can, in acting justly.

Helen Suzman, the former South African MP who fought long and hard against apartheid, used to paraphrase Theodore Roosevelt - "I did what I could, where I was, with what I had."

Micah 6.8 - 'And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.'
